Memory issues and 500 errors with WordPress Plugins

Today we have an interesting question about WordPress plugins and memory issues, sent in to us by a reader named Clifford. He asks:

How can I identify which plugins are eating up memory, causing 500 errors, and generally wreaking havoc on my WordPress site?

Do I need to use WHM/cPanel to check logs and look at running processes on my server?

If I disable all my plugins, I’m sure my site would run better, but I don’t know the best way to identify exactly which plugin is causing the issue. Can anyone help with this?

-Clifford

What say you, brave WordPress ninjas? Can anyone extend a helping hand to our friend Clifford? If you can offer any wisdom on this matter, please leave a comment below this article and share your thoughts.

And, of course, make sure you send us a WordPress question of your own. If it’s a good one, you could win a 3 month membership at the best WordPress club in town: WPMU DEV.
